Saffron House on the High Street was once known as the Three Horseshoes Pub, Hill House, Annie Sharpe’s Cottage and Horseshoe Timbers. It is 17th century, Grade II listed, timber-framed and plastered. Home of the Village Fair in the early 20th century, a precursor of today’s Steam Up. For more information on houses in the Chesterfords see ‘House Histories’ edited by John French and available from the Society. In the 1980s the land was sold off for the construction of the Crocus Surgery.
