Early 20th century photograph of Horse River Green with the River Cam in the foreground and the houses on South Street in the background. The river was used by farmers to water their horses and later to supply water for their farm machinery. At that time School Street was called River Lane and an open road led across the Green to the river. Buckets were used to draw the water before a pump was installed to fill water carts, the remains of which can still be seen. More information on Horse River Green can be found in the red telephone kiosk on the Green.
